Jacques-Louis David painted Cupid and Psyche in 1817 during his exile in Brussels, depicting the god of love stealing away from the sleeping Psyche in a late Neoclassical masterpiece of sensuous beauty and psychological tension. The painting now hangs at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio.
