Orazio Fontana decorated this maiolica basin around 1565 with the story of Deucalion and Pyrrha in vivid polychrome enamel of extraordinary quality. Fontana was the greatest maiolica painter of Renaissance Italy, working for the courts of Urbino and Florence. The original is at the Metropolitan Museum.
